BlueLight.com, an online shopping service owned 60 percent by Kmart Corp., will debut a new paid Internet access service on March 1 that also rewards consumers for buying from the service.
Under the new deal, the San Francisco company will offer 100 hours of BlueLight premier Internet service for $9.95 and a separate free basic service that limits monthly usage up to 12 hours.
BlueLight currently has 6 million free subscribers signed up for its ISP service, which it recently took over from the failed Spinway.com. Current subscribers will automatically be enrolled for the free service and can then sign up for the premier service upgrade.
To attract new customers to its site, BlueLight will offer one month of free Internet access to shoppers who buy an item on the site at www.bluelight.com.
Shoppers will earn more free months for every $50 before shipping or taxes they spend on the site per individual order of $100. The maximum award is six months.
