BlueKai taps former Amazon, Yahoo execs as CMO, CFO

Data management and analytics firm BlueKai has named Jon Ingalls its CMO and Sam Wolff its CFO. Both positions are new for the Cupertino, Calif.-based company. Wolff started in his position on July 25, and Ingalls’ hire took effect during the second quarter.

As CMO, Ingalls oversees the marketing strategy for BlueKai’s data and platform business. Wolff said that he is charged with developing the company’s financial processes.

Ingalls and Wolff report directly to BlueKai CEO Omar Tawakol. BlueKai’s five-member financial group and four-person human resources and operations management team report to Wolff. Ingalls did not respond to a question about who reports to him.

Ingalls had previously served as CEO and cofounder of data management platform TrackSimple, which BlueKai acquired in January. Prior to that role he was Amazon.com‘s director of performance and worked on the company’s data network.

“Given my background in big data and analytics, experience with large scale systems that ingest, organize and vend data for the purposes of optimization, it seemed appropriate to have a CMO that could message the benefits of our platform to customers,” Ingalls said via email.

Prior to joining BlueKai, Wolff built his experience in accounting, financial planning, forecasting and investor relations as VP of finance at Yahoo.

“As CFO of a smaller organization, you get a chance to wear a lot of those hats simultaneously, whereas in a bigger organization things are a little more specialized,” he said. “So for me it’s a great opportunity to take the experiences I’ve had and leverage those into an organization that’s smaller and needs maybe some more focus in some of these areas as we get to the point where we hit critical mass.”
