Detroit’s big three automakers are combining their online buying efforts for suppliers into a single Internet portal. General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler said the supplier network will be open to all auto manufacturers and their suppliers, partners and dealers around the world, and may be expanded to other industries. The companies will have equal ownership in the site, which will operate as an independent business. They said they will reach a definitive agreement for the venture in the first quarter of 2000.
