Benioff says Marketing Cloud will account for $1bn of Salesforce’s revenue “imminently”

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff was in a feisty mood (then again, when is he not?) when he took the stage with Re/code’s Kara Swisher and Workday CEO Aneel Bhusri at Re/code’s Code Conference yesterday.

While Benioff spent a sizeable chunk of the interview exhorting tech leaders (Swisher included) to give back more to the community in San Francisco, he also revealed his bullish view on Salesforce’s marketing solutions.

Benioff said the ExactTarget Marketing Cloud solutions would account for $1 billion out of Salesforce’s $5 billion annual revenues “imminently.”

That’s a telling statistic, especially given that Salesforce only really started focusing on on marketing solutions in 2012, on the back of its acquisitions of Buddy Media and Radian6. It also officially launched its ExactTarget Marketing Cloud last year at its annual Dreamforce conference.
