Become.com Adds News Search

Become.com, a search engine for comparison shopping, is sounding more like Yahoo, MSN and other mainstream engines with yesterday's launch of its “News Search” feature.

Become.com, Mountain View, CA, said visitors can find “breaking news articles relevant to their shopping needs.” The news search automatically happens every time visitors enter a search term into the “Research” box, then links to relevant articles are displayed below the search term.

The articles are meant to help shoppers make “more confident, better-informed purchases,” Become.com president/CEO Michael Yang said. “Not only do we want to help consumers make more informed decisions, we also want to protect them. Product recalls happen daily, and the News Search service is designed to build consumer awareness.”

Become.com claims it provides a more targeted search for shoppers than other engines. In addition, it indexes more than 3.2 billion Web pages of product reviews, buying guides and articles.
