The Baltimore County Police Department has launched a direct mail campaign intended to encourage Honda owners to lock their doors and park in well-lit areas, according to an article in the Baltimore Sun.
“We’re trying to get the message out and make their cars a little more difficult to steal,” Lt. Daniel Kaliszak told a reporter. Kaliszak runs the BCPD’s Regional Auto Theft Task Force, also known as RATT. Apparently, statistics indicate that 1994 Honda Civics and 1991 Accords are two of the top ten most frequently stolen passenger vehicles.
According to the article, the campaign is the department’s “first foray into the direct-marketing approach to crime prevention.” The BCPD is sending out 13,000 direct mail pieces to people in the Baltimore area who own Honda Civics and/or Accords built between 1990 and 2000.
