Banta Pays Air Quality Fine

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said Monday that Banta Catalog Group, Menasha, WI, is once again in compliance with air quality regulations after paying a $10,250 fine and taking actions to correct violations at its commercial printing facility in Maple Grove, MN.

The violations included Banta's failure to demonstrate that a piece of equipment was operating in compliance within 180 days of receiving an air permit in December 2001, according to a statement from MPCA. The required test results were submitted nearly 250 days late.

A Banta spokesman said the company missed the deadline because an outside testing agency had a technical difficulty.

Along with paying the civil penalty, Banta submitted plans to ensure compliance with future performance tests and to correct and resubmit past test reports in order to regain compliance.
