AT&T, IBM Offer Free Privacy Software

IBM and AT&T will provide business customers with free software to automate their Internet privacy policies, the companies said yesterday.

Called Tivoli Privacy Wizard, IBM's software converts a company's written privacy policies into electronic guidelines that can be posted on the Web and on a company's intranet. The software can prevent employees from violating a company's privacy policies by, for example, keeping the employee from using a customer's home address for anything but shipping a product.

AT&T's Privacy Bird software will let customers set privacy preferences so they get visual and audio notification when they visit Web sites that meet, or fall short of, their set preferences.
