Applebee’s will use Vines sent by customers to make its latest TV commercial

Restaurant chain Applebee’s is running a competition to get its customers to submit Vine videos which will be used in two new TV commercials.

The Applebee’s competition (which  kicked off Dec 30 and will go on till Jan 26) encourages restaurant goers to shoot a six second Vine video of themselves reacting to the chain’s new “Under 550 Calories” menu, and post it to the hashtag #BeeFamous. The four best Vines will be used in two new Applebee’s TV spots.

. “#BeeFamous is about capturing the spirit of that first bite of our Unbelievably Great Tasting & Under 550 Calories Menu items,” says Applebee’s president Mike Archer. “The integration of social media and broadcast marketing is something we’ve never done before. It’s exciting to put the spotlight on the fans who show us love every day.”

Applebee’s says it currently has 150 submissions. Here are a few we’ve seen, (most of which are pretty cringeworthy, but some are actually pretty creative!)

Applebee’s isn’t the first brand to take user submitted Vines and use them in a TV commercial. Airbnb recently created an entire short film, elaborately constructed out of shots sent in by Vine users.
