“App Nation.” This is the latest buzz word going around.
Today kicks off the App Nation conference in San Francisco, where execs are convening to discuss topics such as “mobile warming” and “gamer nation” — more catchy phrases sure to enter the vernacular.
However, it is clear that we live in an “app nation.” Companies are redesigning their businesses to reflect the rapidly changing technological world. This is one point Martin Reidy, president of Meredith Integrated Marketing, made in a conversation I had with him a few months ago regarding the company’s acquisition of mobile marketing firm, The Hyperfactory.
In a meeting I had this morning with David Bear, executive director of mobile and social media at BBDO’s Atmosphere, he believes that within two years, everyone will access the majority of applications that are being launched, due to the proliferation of smart phones.
So, let’s see, there’s the NCIS: The Game From the TV Show iPhone app, an Adrenaline Golf Online app, College Football Live Plus! App—it’s an endless list. Brands are testing rewards applications as well.
While it seems like 2010 is a big year for introducing apps by and large, the conference is already addressing strategies for monetization.
Pretty soon, it’s going to be an “App World” we are living in.
