AP Poll: No-Call Is Working

Three-quarters of Americans registered for the national no-call list report a reduction in telemarketing calls since the list took effect, according to an Associated Press poll released last week.

The poll of 1,000 consumers conducted Feb. 16-18 in conjunction with research firm Ipsos-Public Affairs found that half of those surveyed had registered for the list. The poll also found that people who had registered were more likely to be middle-aged or older, white and have college degrees, and that people in the Northeast and Midwest were most likely to register.

The poll also asked questions about unsolicited commercial e-mail and found that 53 percent reported getting a “great deal” and 24 percent said they receive “some.” Nearly 70 percent said they have seen no reduction in the amount of spam they receive since the federal CAN-SPAM law took effect six weeks ago.
