AOL to Host Ticketmaster, Personals

AOL Time Warner said yesterday that it has formed a multi-year alliance with Ticketmaster Inc. that allows AOL to offer Ticketmaster’s ticketing and personals services to AOL’s more than 31 million Web customers.

The agreement calls for AOL to create a virtual Ticketmaster box office on its Web site that allows its users to buy tickets from more than 5,000 national venues to outings ranging from sporting events to theater and concerts. In addition, Ticketmaster’s Citysearch guides will provide AOL with Moviefone cinema information and ticketing updates.

Ticketmaster’s Match.com service will also become the main personals provider for AOL’s LoveatAOL. The service will be offered across AOL, CompuServe and other AOL Time Warner portals.

“By combining our event information and ticketing transaction capability with AOL’s unparalleled audience, we substantially increase our ticketing distribution network,” said Ticketmaster President and CEO John Pleasants.

Company records indicate that Ticketmaster sold more than 83 million tickets in 2000, at a cost of about $3.3 billion.
