AOL Time Warner, VoiceStream Form Agreement

AOL/Time Warner Inc. said this week that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with VoiceStream Wireless that allows both companies to make liberal use of AOL’s popular AIM instant messaging service.

The arrangement, terms of which were not released, allows VoiceStream to offer the AIM service to all of its wireless subscribers, becoming the first North American telecom operator to have that distinction.

AIM allows users to swap real-time messages across both wireless Web-ready devices and two-way, interactive short messaging services.

The agreement further calls for AOL to become a primary content and services provider for VoiceStream’s high-speed Internet service.

In addition, VoiceStream will now also include news and content from AOL Time Warner properties such as People, CNN and Fortune Magazines and deliver access to its other brands like Digital City, MovieFone and MapQuest.
