AOL, SPSS Strike Online Research Deal

SPSS Inc., a technology provider and market researcher, has struck a strategic alliance with America Online Inc.'s Digital Marketing Services division for extensive research across the nation's largest online portal.

In the deal, the SPSS MR division has gained the exclusive rights to distribute survey samples drawn from the 31 million-plus AOL members and millions of other users of Dulles, VA-based America Online's sites.

The alliance aims to boost the growth of online research by offering an integrated platform of programming, data collection, analysis and reporting tools. This Internet sample will offer marketers an assessment of their customer services or products.

As part of the four-year deal, all parties involved will collaborate to expand online industry survey and sample services via OpinionPlace.com, which claims to be the leading portal for survey research respondents.

AOL's Digital Marketing Services will screen and distribute Opinion Place survey respondents to SPSS MR.

SPSS, Chicago, has the rights to Digital Marketing Services' Landscape survey software. It also will be in charge of the marketing, survey programming and hosting for non-AOL marketing research customers.
