AOL, Samsung Strike Technology Deal

AOL Time Warner and Samsung Electronics yesterday announced a strategic marketing and technology development alliance in which the two will pursue a range of cross-platform marketing initiatives using AOL Time Warner's online and offline media properties.

The companies also will collaborate on a next-generation AOL TV set-top box featuring functionality from the TiVo service.

Under the terms of the multiyear agreement, Samsung will promote itself and introduce new digital products using AOL Time Warner's print, TV and online brands. The companies also will work together on digital convergence product areas such as wireless Web terminals and e-mail printers.

AOL Time Warner plans to promote Samsung DVD players across its print and online brands, including People, Entertainment Weekly and Sports Illustrated magazines; the AOL service; and Moviefone.com. Samsung's forthcoming personal digital assistant mobile phone also will be featured through an integrated marketing campaign.

Other programs include a promotion of Samsung's high-definition TV across print, online and TV and a Countdown to the Olympics contest in which AOL members can register to win Samsung prizes.
