**AOL Favors Opt Out Privacy Regulation

America Online Inc., Dulles, VA, yesterday supported an opt out model of consumer data collection in testimony to a Senate panel discussing privacy bills, according to reports.

In a statement before the panel, an AOL spokesman said that privacy legislation needed to be balanced with consumer demand for personalization on the Web.

The panel, which included privacy advocates favoring an opt-in approach to data, was chaired by John McCain (R/VA).
