American Student List Settles Claim

American Student List Company Inc., Mineola, NY, yesterday announced that it has settled a claim that it brought against the Educational Assistance Council, Washington, almost a year ago.

“We sold names to EAC, who transferred them to a third party illegally,” said Martin Lerner, former president and current consultant at American Student, a compiler of student mailing lists.

The list rental agreement strictly prohibits the transfer of rented names to any third party.

Lerner was not able to comment on the specifics of the settlement except to say that EAC was required to announce it in a press release.

According to a press release issued by EAC, the council acknowledged its violation of the list rental agreement. As part of the settlement, EAC has ensured adherence to the terms of the agreement in the future.

The other stipulations of the settlement have not been made public.

EAC could not be reached for further comment.
