American List Executive: List Brokers Should Rise to New Economy

NEW YORK — List brokers shouldn’t feel threatened by e-commerce but should rise to the challenge of the new economy, said Fran Green, executive vice president of American List Counsel, to an audience at its fourth annual For Brokers Only luncheon here yesterday.

Several sponsors donated prizes that were awarded throughout the event, which was held at The Princeton Club and drew more than 100 attendees. Attendance has steadily risen from the first year the luncheon was held.

“Direct marketers like tradition,” Green said, noting the success and longevity of the list business have always revolved around and depended upon tradition.

American List chairman/CEO, Donn Rappaport, echoed Green’s sentiments when he introduced the afternoon’s speaker, Greg Marshall.

Marshall, a marine biologist, gave a speech about his work discerning the behavior of sea creatures before the brokers, who track the behavior of direct mail responders.

As a special thank you, American List and Soap Opera Digest treated brokers to a meet-and-greet with actor Mark Consuelos from “All My Children.”
