Primedia Inc. sold American Demographics to Crain Communications Inc. yesterday, ending publication this month of the 26-year-old magazine that analyzed consumer demographic data. Crain and Primedia, both New York, did not disclose terms.
The deal comes three months after Primedia divested to Red 7 Media Inc. a majority interest in Folio and Circulation Management, two trade titles covering magazine publishing.
In a preliminary filing with the Audit Bureau of Circulations for the six months ended June 30, American Demographics had an average paid circulation of 19,030 and average qualified non-paid circulation of 4,957. Five issues were published this year through June 30.
Crain plans to include American Demographics' brands of analyses as a regular feature of Advertising Age in print and online. The analyses also will run as special reports.
