Amazon.com E-Mails Privacy Policy Revision to Customers

Online retailing giant Amazon.com, Seattle, said yesterday that it had revised its privacy policy and was letting millions of its customers know via e-mail.

A prepared statement by founder/CEO Jeff Bezos said the company's present activities as well as possible future endeavors were taken into account when the changes to the privacy policy were made.

Posted in the privacy policy on Amazon's Web site are details about what personal information the company gathers and how it will be used. The company also explains cookies and how consumers can disable being tracked.

“However, cookies allow you to take full advantage of some of Amazon.com's coolest features, and we recommend that you leave them turned on,” the privacy statement says.

Amazon also says it sends offers to selected groups of its customers on behalf of other businesses but it does not give out anyone's name or address, and it tells consumers who aren't interested how to be taken off the list.
