Amazon Gets Into Pictures

Amazon.com has added a channel to its Web site called In Theaters that lets visitors view movie times and see film reviews.

This expands the online retailer's recent venture into movie marketing. Amazon has been working with Touchstone Pictures to promote the upcoming film “Pearl Harbor” and has forged a co-marketing deal with Buena Vista Pictures for its movie releases.

To create the movie channel, Amazon worked with its subsidiary company, IMDb.com, which provides information on 250,000 movie titles and houses a database of other entertainment resources.

Amazon's move follows in the footsteps of Yahoo and America Online, which recently established areas at their portals for viewers to look up movies. Financial terms of the Touchstone and Buena Vista agreements were not disclosed.
