Amazon Adds Auction Restrictions

Amazon.com, Seattle, WA, said this week it will hit certain auction customers with new fees and require sellers to offer its own person-to-person payment service.

The service, called Amazon Payments, was an option available only to sellers with U.S. bank accounts. It is now a restriction that will exclude many sellers in other countries.

Sellers can still offer other payment methods such as check, money order or wire transfer services.

Buyers will not be restricted, and can still choose any method of payment they want.

Amazon representatives said the requirements will take effect “soon,” but did not specify when.
