Alarm Company Pays $275,000 to Settle DNC Case

ADT Security Services Inc. agreed yesterday to pay $275,000 to settle charges that it committed about 1,100 violations of the Missouri do-not-call list in the largest penalty ever collected by the state involving its no-call registry.

ADT, Boca Raton, FL, admitted no wrongdoing as part of the settlement and blamed independent dealers of its alarm systems for the violations. News of the settlement was first reported in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The Missouri Attorney General's office sued ADT in August 2001 in state court. ADT is a division of Tyco International Ltd.

Previously, the largest payout involving DNC violations in Missouri was $75,000 by Access Resource Services, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The company operated the Psychic Readers Network fronted by the once-ubiquitous DRTV personality Miss Cleo.
