Airborne Inc. announced that its subsidiary Airborne Express will reduce its fuel surcharge from 4 percent to 2.9 percent effective Jan. 14 for air express shipments moving through its transportation network.
The fuel surcharge currently applies to all Domestic, Canadian, and International Express shipments.
Airborne, Seattle, also will reduce the fuel surcharge for Ground Delivery Service and airborne@home from 1.2 percent to 1 percent.
Though recent fuel prices have been at slightly lower levels than those seen through 2000 and the first three quarters of 2001, the price of jet fuel is still considerably higher than the base price that was set when it first implemented the fuel surcharge, Airborne said.
“We believe our action is in line with the industry trend,” said Carl Donaway, president and chief operating officer of Airborne, “which is to pass on the savings of recent jet fuel price declines to customers while remaining prudent in light of the volatile market for jet fuel.”
