Aftermarket Co. Pays Software Alliance for Unlicensed Programs

Telemarketing outsourcer The Aftermarket Co., Phoenix, came to an agreement Friday with the Business Software Alliance, Washington, to settle claims that it installed unlicensed copies of programs on its computers.

The alliance said The Aftermarket Co. paid it $168,000. The parties reached the settlement after The Aftermarket Co. conducted a self-audit of its computer systems at the alliance's request.

The alliance recently completed a campaign that would allow companies to avoid civil penalties for license violations if they reviewed their software and acquired the necessary licenses. The campaign, which ran throughout November, was promoted to businesses in Baltimore, Cincinnati, Phoenix and Austin, TX.
