ADVO Pledges $500,000 Reward for Anthrax Mailer

ADVO Inc., one of the nation's largest direct mail marketing companies, offered a $500,000 reward yesterday for the capture and conviction of anyone responsible for contaminating the nation's mail with anthrax.

The amount doubles ADVO's pledge made two months ago when it committed $250,000 to the $1 million reward then offered by the U.S. Postal Service and the FBI.

The announcement raises the total offered to $1.5 million, an amount that could go even higher when government agencies, as expected, increase their portion of the reward.

A USPS spokesman said major mailing companies have been pressing for an increase. The postal service may announce by next week an increase in its reward to about $2 million.

Windsor, CT-based ADVO called on other companies to contribute to the reward and push the total even higher.
