Advertising.com to serve Japanese online advertising market

Advertising.com Inc., a subsidiary of AOL LLC, has made a deal with Mitsui & Co. to create a new joint venture to serve the Japanese online advertising market.

The venture will operate under the name Advertising.com Japan and will be that country’s new performance-based online advertising network. Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

The $3.4 billion online advertising market in Japan, which is second only to the United States, is expected to grow to $4.9 billion by 2009, according to 2006 data from Mizuho Corporation Bank Research.

The venture will connect advertisers and Web site publishers through a central network. Ads will be automatically and dynamically served in real-time based on performance metrics such as clicks, leads, or sales generated.

Advertising.com currently operates the largest third-party display ad network in the United States.

Advertising.com Japan will leverage Mitsui’s established industry relationships with Japanese advertisers and publishers. Advertising.com will provide use of its proprietary ad serving and AdLearn search optimization technology.

In addition to Japan, Advertising.com has operations in England, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland – with its headquarters in the United States.
