Ad Federation Names Four to Hall of Fame

The American Advertising Federation named four ad legends as its latest inductees into the Advertising Hall of Fame yesterday.

Honored are Karl Eller, former chairman/CEO, Clear Channel Outdoor; Philip H. Geier Jr., former chairman/CEO, The Interpublic Group of Companies; John E. Pepper, former chairman/CEO, Procter & Gamble Co.; and Liener Temerlin, chairman emeritus, Temerlin McClain Advertising.

“These giants all but created modern advertising as we know it,” AAF president/CEO Wally Snyder said in a statement. “Their greatness and influence is still felt today, and their style is emulated by advertising professionals the world over.”

In describing the men, the AAF’s press release called Eller a “tenacious advertising executive who reshaped the business of outdoor advertising and transformed it into a business powerhouse.” It called Geier a “dedicated industry leader and activist who defined the modern advertising holding company, as well as promoted and fine-tuned the client-centric business model.”

The recipients will be officially inducted during a luncheon March 16 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

The Advertising Hall of Fame began in 1948, and has inducted 162 individuals, including Leo Burnett, Jay Chiat, Katharine Graham, John H. Johnson, David Ogilvy, William Paley and Harley Procter.
