Acxiom Enters Australia Through Partnership With PBL

Database services firm Acxiom Corp., Little Rock, AR, said yesterday that it will enter the Australian market through a joint venture with Australian media conglomerate Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd., Sydney, which is the largest magazine publisher in Australia and also operates broadcasting, e-commerce and leisure businesses.

The 50-50 joint venture, which will be based in Sydney and will operate under the Acxiom name, will offer customer relationship management and other services for large corporations in Australia and New Zealand using the demographic and lifestyle data PBL has accumulated through its media holdings.

Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

“PBL's knowledge of the local market will be invaluable and its knowledge of the consumer population will perfectly complement the data management technologies we have already developed internationally,” said Charles D. Morgan, Acxiom company leader, in a prepared statement.

The joint venture, which is expected to become fully operational in September, will be headed by Andrew Robb, former federal director of Australia's Liberal Party.
