Acxiom acquires MKTG Services

Acxiom Corporation has acquired MKTG Services Inc., in a move to expand its services for small and medium-sized businesses.

MKTG Services had been performing data compilation and marketing services for Acxiom’s SMB clients on an outsource basis for more than a year. Acxiom executives hope to further leverage the experience of MKTG’s sales team, which specializes in compiled data sales, list brokerage and data processing.

“We thought we would eventually migrate that business back in-house,” explained Drew May, information-based organizations leader at Acxiom. “Then the opportunity came to acquire the whole business, and we really didn’t look at any other businesses for comparison. This acquisition was a result of our working relationship, and it made sense to move them in to the Acxiom family.”

Some staff at MKTG Services were let go before the acquisition, but all those remaining will be joining Acxiom. The MKTG staff could grow in the future, as Acxiom invests more in that arm of the business, May added. MKTG SVP Stacey Girt will play a key leadership role for the integrated staff.

MKTG also will retain its three bases of operation in New York, NY; Newtown, PA; and FortMeyers, FL. Employees at smaller offices will either move or work from home.

“There are three areas of MKTG that are interesting to Acxiom,” May summed up. “There are the info-based small business operations and the data processing business where they do some merge-purge work and maintain some databases for clients such as Gymboree and GE and Merry Maids that fit perfectly into solutions Acxiom provides. They also do a lot of third-party data resale, selling Acxiom data into the mid-tier marketplace, and we feel that needs focus from the Acxiom standpoint.”

Acxiom, headquartered in Little Rock, AK, specializes in customer information management. Corporate partners include Accenture, D&B, DoubleClick, IBM, Lockheed Martin, Oracle and TransUnion.
