Actors, Ad Industry Reach Tentative Agreement

The Screen Actors Guild has reached a tentative agreement with the ad industry.

The three-year agreement is expected to settle the 175-day strike.

The deal apparently would give SAG and the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists jurisdiction over the Internet and a raise in cable rates.

Actors would retain the current system of residuals for network TV, which was a contentious issue during the strike. Advertisers wanted to scrap the old system in favor of upfront payments.

The deal must be ratified by the memberships of both unions, but that is not expected to be a major problem, according to reports.
