ABR 2011: Infogroup

Principal?: Clare Hart, CEO?
Ownership?: CCMP Capital Advisors?
Offices?: 62 wholly owned globally;?39 in US?
Global revenue?: Estimated at about $525 million?

Capabilities?

A year ago, Infogroup would have been described as 31 competing data and marketing services businesses. Now, after more than 18 months of consolidation and rebranding, it is a single company providing marketing research, creative, strategy and campaign services.?

The Omaha, Neb.-based company struggled in 2009 as revenues tumbled, and continued to struggle into the first half of 2010, but things changed, says CEO Clare Hart, when Infogroup was acquired by CCMP Capital Advisors in July. There was a “collective sigh of relief,” says Hart, who joined Infogroup as part of the acquisition.?

Accounts ?

Infogroup added several new accounts over the last year, including AT&T, JVC and Valassis. The company also renewed key accounts with Google, Coca-Cola and Hewlett-Packard.

Staff?

Last year marked the end of Infogroup founder Vin Gupta’s 28-year relationship with the company. The former CEO, who was accused in 2008 of using company funds to support a lavish lifestyle, resigned from the board last March. ?

New leadership was installed post-acquisition, including Richard Hanks as EVP and CFO. The company has more than 3,300 employees worldwide, with 2,687 of those concentrated in the US.?

Performance?

Before CCMP took Infogroup private, it reported 2009 revenues of $499.9 million, a 15.1% drop from 2008 when it posted revenues of $588.7 million.

Hart says 2010 revenues were “up less than 5% over last year,” which is still shy of 2008 levels. Yet with the acquisition in the rearview mirror and the company rebranding scheduled to finalize in July, the next 12 months could be a renaissance.
