ABI: Exec Departures Won’t Affect Operations

American Business Information chairman and founder Vin Gupta will assume the title of CEO after the resignation of Scott Dahnke from that position Aug. 1, but the day-to-day operations of the Omaha, NE, information services provider formerly handled by Dahnke will now be shared among four executives.

Those executives are CFO Steven Purcell, large business group president Al Ambrosino, small business group president William Chasse and data compilation and information systems group president Monica Messer.

Dahnke, whose announcement July 6 comes in the wake of Jon Wellman’s departure as COO on July 1, will take a senior-level position with the leveraged buyout firm AEA Investors, New York. The move was not totally unexpected by Gupta, who said Dahnke and his wife never were comfortable in Omaha since he became CEO in October. Dahnke previously had been a partner with consultant McKinsey & Co. Chicago. Gupta said ABI has a seasoned management team in place to take up the slack and allow him to continue to examine acquisitions.

“My role really doesn’t change that much,” Gupta said. “The whole team has been here for a long time, and I have no need to bring in anybody or promote anybody.”

The personnel changes come in anticipation of ABI changing its management structure and its name to InfoUSA. The changes will take effect Aug. 1.
