40 Under 40 2016: B.J. Boling, Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems

The craft has filled his passport with stamps from places he’d never thought he’d go. He’s a big picture communications strategist with a focus on perfect execution.

What has been your proudest career accomplishment to date?

I walked into work one morning, and it was just me and one other guy. Everyone else had either quit or gotten cut. Our campaign was out of money. We were down in the polls. But six months later, after leaning on John McCain’s powerful narrative, we won the South Carolina presidential primary, despite being outspent and outgunned.

What’s the best piece of advice you can give to future 40 Under 40 honorees?

Sometimes when we rush to embrace the latest and greatest tactic, we overlook that it’s the story that matters most. Take the time to get it right. Focus on and put your energy on the story.

What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

I’ve always thought if you work hard, do a good job, and get results, everything will work out. I just hope to keep learning, to put my team in position for success, and to have great stories to tell.

What is one interesting fact about you that few people know?

My dad was a huge fan of the TV show M*A*S*H. Consequently, I was named after B.J. Hunnicutt.
