'Wheel of Fortune' Readies Online Sweepstakes

Sony Pictures Entertainment is using the Internet to promote “Wheel of Fortune” and is using the popular game show to send viewers to wheeloffortune.com.

An online sweepstakes will promote the show's NFL Players Week, which partners National Football League players playing for charity with contestants who play for themselves. NFL Players Week airs Jan. 22-26.

Sweepstakes entrants must watch “Wheel of Fortune” to enter three of five bonus puzzle solutions that appeared on the shows that week. They also must answer one of five NFL trivia question. Answers to the trivia questions can be found through a link to the NFL Web site.

The grand prize includes a five-day, four-night trip to Waikiki, HI, and two tickets to the Pro Bowl on Feb. 4.

A 10-second spot at the end of the show will direct viewers to wheeloffortune.com to enter the sweepstakes. Banner ads throughout Sony's Web sites will promote the sweepstakes as well.

“We exist online to get people to watch the show,” said Steve Jacobs, director of marketing and production for television at Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, producer of the show. “We like to keep the site fresh. We're always updating content. The show has so many themed weeks, it's easy to maintain freshness.”

Visitors to the site also can buy licensed products and learn about the show.
