'Lord of the Rings' Rules Searches on Shopping.com

Keywords “lord of the rings” and “nike air force” had the sharpest rise in searches at comparison-shopping service Shopping.com for the week ending Dec. 1.

Launching its weekly consumer demand index at www.shopping.com/cdi, Shopping.com, San Francisco, said searches were up 277 percent for “lord of the rings” and 270 percent for “nike air force.”

Others in the top 10 were “iquest,” (up 255 percent); “trampoline,” (231 percent); “surround sound,” (216 percent); “total gym,” (205 percent); “rescue hero,” (204 percent); “replica jersey,” (202 percent); “easy bake oven” (198 percent) and “remote car starter” (197 percent).

Searches on the site also show that old toys like the Radio Flyer Wagon are again popular.

In line with online shopping trends, the Monday after Thanksgiving — Black Monday to online retailers — was the busiest day so far this year for e-commerce.

That was the case for Shopping.com. More than 2 million shoppers visited the site Dec. 1. The company claimed more than 1.4 million customer leads were generated for featured and listed merchants, accounting for sales of nearly $12 million.
