3 Celebrities Join People en Espanol

People en Espanol added three celebrities to its editorial masthead.

The new contributing editors at the 6-year-old, Time Inc.-owned Hispanic entertainment magazine are music producer Emilio Estefan, astrologer Walter Mercado and Jai Rodriguez of “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.”

One reason for this move is to keep People en Espanol's editorial fresh and updated. A competitive Hispanic publishing environment is another reason for adding icons to the magazine's editorial lineup.

Estefan is the monthly's expert on Hispanic music trends, summer concerts and CDs that are in vogue. His section launches with the December/year-end issue on sale Nov. 1.

Rodriguez, whose reality show airs on the Bravo channel, joins that same issue. He will write a fashion, trends and cultural page as well as respond to reader queries.

The December/year-end issue also will have Mercado's “Querido Walter?” (“Dear Walter”) column. He also will create astrology chart readings of celebrities. In addition, he will create a 16-page, 2005 forecast pullout section for the February issue going on newsstands Jan. 3.

People en Espanol is part of the People magazine franchise. Its rate base of 425,000 makes it one of the largest-selling Hispanic magazines nationwide.
