CinemaNow Inc., an Internet provider of on-demand movies, signed a licensing deal with Fox Entertainment Group to offer select films and television programs on a download-to-own basis.
Consumers will be able to go to www.cinemanow.com and download a selection of new and old films from the Twentieth Century Fox library and pay anywhere from $9.95 to $19.95 to own a film. Such titles as “The Ringer” and “Cheaper by the Dozen 2” will be available.
Next month television content also will be available from Fox Broadcasting Co., FX, Fuel TV, Speed and Twentieth Century Fox Television for $1.99 an episode. This is the first time that Marina del Rey, CA-based CinemaNow will offer content from multiple television networks. Shows include “24”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly.”
CinemaNow is an online movie download site that legally offers content from a library of more than 4,000 films, TV programs and music videos. Other licensees that provide content include ABC News, Disney, Lions Gate, MGM, Miramax, NBC Universal, Sony, Warner Bros., Sundance Channel and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
The CinemaNow licensing deal with Fox Entertainment comes a couple of months after movie download site Movielink, Santa Monica, CA, decided to ramp up marketing.
Movielink, a studio-sponsored movie download site, tapped ad agency Donat/Wald, Santa Monica, CA, to handle radio, TV, print and online marketing.
Consumers visiting the site at www.movielink.com can download a movie on the same day as the DVD’s market release.
The Movielink service is a joint venture of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. Studios. Movielink pulls its content from the libraries of those studios, plus Walt Disney Pictures, Miramax, Artisan and other film companies on a non-exclusive basis.
