Yahoo Stores Loses Crabtree & Evelyn to Venda E-Commerce Platform

ATLANTA - Crabtree & Evelyn Ltd. switched e-commerce platforms from Yahoo Stores to Venda's outsourced solution as the retailer of naturally derived bath, body and home care products prepares to relaunch its U.S. site and then expand into markets like Britain and Canada.

Venda offers a soup-to-nuts hosted merchandising and marketing platform used mostly by companies in its British home market like the Hamleys toy store, Virgin Megastores, Goldsmiths, Mothercare, BBC Shops, Lands' End and Wickes. It is now actively targeting companies on U.S. soil through its New York office.

"The limitation of Yahoo Stores means they didn't have the flexibility of merchandising and marketing online that a global brands needs," said Bernardine C. Wu, Venda chief operating officer told me at's FirstLook 2006 conference. "Crabtree also has a multi-site strategy."

Crabtree began using Yahoo Stores in the late 1990s. Founded in 1973, the Cambridge, MA-based Crabtree today sells its products in more than 8,000 locations and 400 concept stores worldwide. Products are also available on the site at
