Yahoo Resolves Most Advertiser Problems From Upgrade
The upgrade began the weekend of Aug. 20 to help handle "significant changes" and programs planned for the second half of this year, Ted Meisel, president of Yahoo Search Marketing, wrote in a letter to advertisers this past weekend.
But one of Yahoo's largest planned projects, upgrading its core databases that process and store listings, gave marketers trouble accessing their accounts, managing keyword bids and managing their listings, according to Yahoo and its advertisers.
"It [upgrading the core databases] was a complex, broad effort to lay the groundwork for performance and availability improvements that you will see over the coming months," Meisel wrote.
One Yahoo advertiser, Bronto Software, Durham, NC, not only had problems accessing its account, but its ads did not show for three days.
"We lost 3 1/2 days of ads showing, and that is a loss of about 100 or so clicks," Bronto marketing director Hilary Stokes said.
Yahoo said it would credit the company's account.
Most advertisers should have no problems accessing and updating their accounts this week.
"We have resolved the majority of the issues and core service has been restored," Meisel wrote. "We are hopeful that any additional service interruptions will be minor as we continue to fine-tune our systems."
Meisel said he understood that advertisers' sales and marketing efforts have been affected, and he encouraged marketers to contact Yahoo with comments.
