Yahoo Launches Audio Search

While all the major search engines -- including America Online in its revamp -- are focusing on video search and content, Yahoo is attempting to differentiate itself with its new Audio Search beta, which launched yesterday.

Yahoo claims it is the first major search engine to offer an audio search that provides access to more than 59 million audio files. The files are from Yahoo Music and other Yahoo properties, as well as partners such as Napster, RealNetworks and MTV.

Yahoo is allowing independent publishers to submit content to the index through Media Really Simple Syndication (Media RSS).

Yahoo users have access to the files in the form of podcasts, music downloads, albums and spoken word, including newscasts, speeches and interviews. It also is providing music videos, album reviews and artists' Web sites.
