Worldata Acts to Protect Company Name
Worldata, Boca Raton, FL, acted to protect its federally registered company name yesterday against a Panamanian firm calling itself World Data Corp.The alleged infringement was discovered through a promotional e-mail received by DM News that was forwarded to Worldata. The e-mail offered prospecting lists and gave a toll-free telephone number to contact World Data.
Worldata law firm Berger Singerman has begun intervention on the company's behalf.
"Worldata has extensive intellectual property rights that it will not hesitate to enforce if World Data Corporation does not immediately discontinue the use of its name and cease and desist in efforts to confuse the marketplace," Jerome Wolf, partner in Berger Singerman, said in a statement. "Specifically, Worldata will institute legal proceedings wherein it will seek injunctive relief, damages, attorneys fees and other relief."
Last March, Worldata successfully defended itself against another Boca Raton firm calling itself World Data Networks.
The Panamanian firm did not respond to a request for comment yesterday.
