Williams-Sonoma Names Digitas

Specialty home furnishings retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc. has named Digitas Inc., San Francisco, to handle site development of its e-commerce properties.

The agency replaced marchFirst, San Francisco, which has filed for bankruptcy protection. Fees and agencies considered for the business were not disclosed.

Digitas will work on Williams-Sonoma's three sites: williams-sonoma.com, potterybarn.com and potterybarnkids.com. Williams-sonoma.com and potterybarn.com will be redesigned for a relaunch in the fall, while potterybarnkids.com will debut at an undisclosed date.

Williams-Sonoma, San Francisco, also sells via 382 stores and six catalogs. Its retail brands include Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Bed & Bath, Hold Everything and Chambers.

For Digitas, the Williams-Sonoma win comes on the heels of a new $15 million assignment from online bookseller Barnes & Noble.com Inc. Digitas was named marketing agency of record, succeeding TBWA Chiat/Day, New York, which stopped working on the account a year ago.

Digitas has headquarters in Boston and a staff of 1,800 across nine offices worldwide. Its clients include Morgan Stanley, Terra Lycos, Federal Express, Charles Schwab, General Motors Corp. and L.L. Bean.
