Williams-Sonoma CEO Departs; Mueller Named as Replacement

Williams-Sonoma Inc. CEO and director Dale Hilpert is leaving the company, Williams-Sonoma announced yesterday.


Edward A. Mueller was named CEO effective immediately. Mueller has served on the San Francisco company's board of directors since 1999. He was chairman of the company's Audit Committee and a member of its Nominations and Corporate Governance Committee.


Before joining the company, Mueller served as president/CEO of SBC Ameritech, a subsidiary of SBC Communications Inc., a telecommunications company with revenue in excess of $40 billion. Mueller joined the SBC organization in 1968 and held numerous executive positions, including president/CEO of Southwestern Bell Telephone, president/CEO of Pacific Bell and president of SBC International Operations.
