Wells Fargo Debuts Wireless Banking

Wells Fargo & Co. has begun offering Wells Wireless, a free wireless banking service for its 2.5 million online banking customers.

The service lets consumers and small-business customers access account balance information and transaction history, perform transfers between accounts, obtain stock quotes and track securities using Wells Fargo's watch lists and stock alert capabilities.

The company plans to add a Wells Fargo ATM and store locator as well as bill-paying and brokerage services sometime this year. Officials at Wells Fargo did not return calls.

The wireless service is accessible through Sprint PCS wireless phones and Palm VII hand-held devices from anywhere in the United States.

Wells Wireless customers can also contact a staff of roughly 1,000 customer service representatives 24 hours a day.

Wells Fargo & Co. provides banking, insurance, investment, mortgage and consumer finance services through about 5,700 locations.
