Weight Watchers names McCann NY social media AOR

Weight Watchers International has named McCann New York its social media AOR, the weight-loss company said May 23.

The company hired the Interpublic Group firm after a review of 10 agencies, according to a statement posted on McCann Worldgroup's Facebook page. A Weight Watchers spokesperson confirmed the hire to Direct Marketing News.

“McCann New York demonstrated advanced understanding of how social media can help further build consumer engagement with our brand and our PointsPlus program,” said Lee Hurley, director of online marketing at WeightWatchers.com, in a statement.

McCann has served as Weight Watchers' creative agency since 2007. The agency also works with brands such as General Mills, Nikon Corp. and Kohl's.

Publicis Groupe digital agency Razorfish will continue to manage Weight Watchers' social media analytics.

Financial terms of the contract with McCann were not disclosed.
