Visa International last week launched Visa Destinations, an online travel portal offering cardholders exclusive offers and promotions from travel, retail and entertainment merchants worldwide.

The portal, at www.visadestinations.com, also offers a travel planner and destinations guide. In the guide, users can click on a destination worldwide and get offers and promotions from participating retailers and travel service providers geared to the destination. More than 600 merchants are participating, Visa said.

"We expect the site's range of special values, travel tips and information to generate widespread interest among cardholders, while enabling merchants to reach millions of consumers with customized promotions delivering remarkable flexibility," said Tom Shepard, executive vice president of international marketing partnerships and sponsorships at Visa.

Visa offers merchants the Merchant Online Offer Management Program, which lets them design and input offers directly onto the portal. They also can track their offers in real time. The company said the management program also makes promotional artwork available to merchants.

Consumers can print coupons from many of the merchants and redeem them offline at selected locations. Other offers can be redeemed online or by telephone.

Merchants offering promotions on Visa Destinations include Marriott Hotels and Resorts, Design Hotels, Korean National Tourism Organization, Le Meridien, Salt Lake Convention and Visitor's Bureau and Sandals.

Visa offers 160 promotions in eight categories: airlines, entertainment, travel packages, car rental, lodging, travel-related items, cruises and spas. It said it hopes to feature more than 1,000 merchant offers by the end of the year.
