Viking Direct Expands to Portugal
Office Depot subsidiary Viking Office Products said yesterday it opened a direct mail business in the Portuguese market under the Viking Direct brand name targeting small- to medium-size businesses.Viking Direct's catalogs offer 5,000 office products to an undisclosed number of prospects, and the subsidiary will begin an e-commerce operation at Vikingdirect.pt by mid-2003. Further details about Viking's operations in Portugal were not disclosed.
Viking's division in Spain, which launched in April, will operate the company's business in Portugal. The company's call center in northwest Spain will serve Viking's Portuguese customers.
Viking, Delray Beach, FL, has opened businesses in 14 countries outside the United States since 1960. Vikingdirect.pt will represent the company's 12th international Web site since 1998.
