Video comes to e-mail

We've been hearing about video in e-mail since online video took off a couple of years ago. Don't do it, it'll give you a bad reputation to send such big files. Do do it, but just send a link instead of a video file. Everyone has been wanting to do it, but no one has been exactly sure if it is a good idea because of compliance issues. Until now. Goodmail has finally come up with a plan.

The beauty of Goodmail's plan is that senders can now actually send e-mails with videos inside, without being concerned about getting stuck in spam filters or getting a bad reputation. Since Goodmail senders are already screened and have to go through a process to be able to be certified to send Goodmail, the idea is that these senders are already following best practices and are therefore safe senders. They are not even delivering through the same protocols as regular e-mailers. Think of normal senders as the USPS and Goodmail senders as sending through FedEx or UPS.

So Certified Video lets these senders send e-mails with video inside without the worries. The product is due out in 2009 and includes partnerships with AOL, Yahoo, Cox, Comcast and others. Concert promoter Live Nation, will be among the first advertisers to start using it. Can't wait to see how it in action.
