Valpak launches geotargeted digital coupon offering
Direct mail couponing company Valpak has launched a location-based digital coupon service with mobile application developer Metaio GmbH. The service will deliver discounts through the developer's augmented reality application Junaio.
“Part of our job as an advertising provider is that we provide our advertisers with access to consumers wherever they happen to be,” said Jim Buckley, director of digital sales development at Valpak. “We know that people are using mobile devices more than ever. For us, as devices get easier for people to use and more accessible to the general population, we want to make sure that Valpak is available on all those platforms.”
Using the Junaio app, consumers can select the “local coupons by Valpak” channel to view where they can redeem offers near their location. Consumers will be able to view the specific offer and the distance to that location or call the business to receive directions. Coupons will appear in the mobile browser and can be redeemed by presenting the screen featuring the coupon upon purchase.
Buckley said participating advertisers will be able to track which coupons are redeemed through the Junaio app. However, Valpak will not collect consumers' personal information, he said.
Valpak is using the mobile channel to target consumers “whose primary way of interacting with information is either on a mobile device or online,” particularly younger consumers, said Buckley.
Valpak is working with PR agency Ruder Finn to promote the offering.
